Bandung (ANTARA) - Tedy Rusmawan, a member of Commission IV of the West Java Provincial Legislative Council (DPRD), has called for the selection process for the new management of Bandung Zoo to be carried out transparently and professionally. According to Tedy, the selection team must be composed of parties with the capacity and capability in animal management, ensuring that the selected management is truly competent. “The hope is that the selection team is credible, filled with individuals who have expertise related to animal management,” he stated in Bandung on Monday. He also urged that the fate of the long-serving former employees at Bandung Zoo be considered in the new management process. In his view, these workers possess invaluable experience that must not be overlooked. “Those who have dedicated their service should not be unable to return to work,” he said. “Thus, the appointed management for Bandung Zoo will truly be professional,” he added. Furthermore, he expressed concern over the deaths of two Bengal tigers named Huru and Hara, which represent a significant loss to the zoo’s sustainability. According to him, the West Java Natural Resources Conservation Agency, together with the Bandung City Government, must provide assurances to the public regarding the safety and welfare of the animals in the future. “As this has become a matter of public consumption, forward-looking efforts are needed to ensure such incidents do not recur,” he said.
