West Java DPRD Backs PWI’s Bid to Reclaim Porwanas Title
BANDUNG — Commission V of the West Java Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) is backing the West Java chapter of the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) in its bid to reclaim the overall title at the 2027 National Journalists’ Sports Week (Porwanas), to be held in Lampung from 5 to 10 April 2027. The support is expected to motivate the West Java contingent to restore its former glory at the national event for journalists.
The commitment was conveyed by members of Commission V during a meeting with PWI West Java officials at the West Java DPRD building in Bandung on Friday, 30 October 2026.
Commission V chairman Yomanius Untung said the committee supported the staging of Porwanas 2027 and hoped West Java would once again achieve the highest honours.
“In principle, the West Java DPRD supports the successful staging of Porwanas 2027 in Lampung. We hope the West Java contingent can once again win the title at this journalists’ sports week,” Yomanius said.
Commission V member Hasbullah Rahmad said the support would be pursued institutionally, including in relation to sending the West Java contingent to Lampung.
“As an institution, we support our colleagues’ programme to send the West Java contingent to Lampung. We will pursue this institutionally so that they can go,” Hasbullah said.
Commission V member Zaini Shofari likewise affirmed his commitment to supporting PWI West Java’s participation in Porwanas. He said he hoped the contingent would once again achieve an honourable result.
PWI West Java chairman Tantan Sulthon said Porwanas 2027 would be held alongside the National Press Day (HPN) celebrations. The central PWI decided to combine the two events in April 2027, taking into account that their scheduled dates would fall during Ramadan.
Tantan said West Java had an impressive record, having won the Porwanas overall title four times. Its most recent three titles were won consecutively, leaving the President’s Cup in the hands of PWI West Java.
“God willing, West Java will take part in HPN and Porwanas. In terms of achievements, we have won the title four times: once in 1996, and then three times in a row, earning the President’s Cup for winning the overall title for three consecutive years,” Tantan said.
Despite its strong record, the West Java contingent won only silver at the most recent event. The result has served both as a point for evaluation and as motivation to reclaim the overall title in Lampung.
“In Lampung, our ambition is to restore the Porwanas victory that has become customary for the West Java contingent,” he said.
Tantan hopes the Porwanas target will form part of West Java’s wider drive to improve sporting achievements, including at the National Sports Week (PON).
