West Java Dominates as Ministry of Manpower Records 8,389 Layoffs by March 2026

Jakarta – The Ministry of Manpower reports that up to March 2026, 8,389 individuals have become victims of employment termination (PHK). Based on the Satu Data Kemnaker report, these laid-off workers are classified as participants in the Employment Loss Guarantee (JKP) programme of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan. “In the period from January to March 2026, there were 8,389 workers affected by PHK who are classified as JKP programme participants,” as quoted from the Satu Data Kemnaker report, Sunday, 12 April 2026. In detail, January 2026 recorded 4,590 layoffs. This was followed by an increase to 3,273 in February, and 526 in March. Looking at the regions, the highest number of laid-off workers was in West Java province, contributing around 20.51% of the total workforce. “The highest number of laid-off workers in this period was in West Java province, around 20.51% of the total reported laid-off workforce,” the report states. In terms of numbers, the total laid-off workers in West Java up to March 2026 reached 1,721, followed by South Kalimantan with a total of 1,071 affected by PHK.
