West Java Deputy Governor's Name Dragged into Alleged Fraud Case, Lawyer Cites Misunderstanding

Andri Somantri, a resident of Karawang, has apologised to West Java Deputy Governor Erwan Setiawan after his name was dragged into a dispute over an alleged fraud case. In a meeting with Erwan’s legal counsel, Jandri Ginting, Andri stated that the conflict stemmed from a misunderstanding, including miscommunication between the respective legal representatives. “There was a misunderstanding regarding this dispute, including misunderstandings from each legal counsel, and I apologise,” he said on Tuesday (28/7/2026). He added that after clarifying data and cross-checking evidence, it was agreed that it was purely a misunderstanding and that no funds had flowed to Mr Erwan Setiawan. He stressed that the issue he raised was not directed at Erwan Setiawan. “Therefore, I emphasise that this problem is not with Mr Erwan, but with Sherly Ingga Setiawati,” he stated. He noted that both parties have agreed to jointly urge the West Java Regional Police investigators to immediately follow up on the report, elevate it to the investigation stage, and promptly name a suspect. Erwan Setiawan’s lawyer, Jandri Ginting, confirmed the meeting with Andri Somantri and welcomed his good faith, reiterating that it was purely a misunderstanding. “I also hope that this issue will be resolved soon and hope that the public will not build opinions that corner one party,” he said. Previously, the name of the West Java Deputy Governor had been linked to an alleged fraud and embezzlement case involving Rp 3 billion, which is currently being handled by the West Java Regional Police. The legal counsel had previously asserted that Erwan had no legal connection to the case and denied any flow of funds to his client.
