West Java Deputy Governor Erwan Setiawan has ensured that Ihsan (15), a student at SMP Negeri 1 Tanjungsari, can continue his education at the school. Previously, this Class VII pupil had temporarily stopped schooling due to his family’s economic factors.

He revealed this during a visit to SMP Negeri 1 Tanjungsari, Sumedang Regency, on Wednesday (22/4).

“I was shocked, you know, that at the state school in Tanjungsari, there is a child who has to leave and not continue to Class VIII because of economic problems,” said Erwan in a written statement on Friday (24/4/2026).

Seeing this issue, Erwan guaranteed that Ihsan can continue his schooling. He assured that the West Java Provincial Government will directly assist children in West Java who are economically disadvantaged, especially Ihsan, so that his aspirations do not stop midway.

“I guarantee that Ihsan and all children in West Java will continue their schooling up to higher levels. Later, I will personally speak with his parents,” he stated.

As a form of concrete support, he also provided assistance for school fees until Ihsan completes junior high school, along with school supplies such as a bag, shoes, and a new uniform.

For Erwan, Ihsan is not just an ordinary student. He sees a child full of spirit, loved by his friends, and with a strong determination for a better future.

“I hope Ihsan continues schooling, showing that Ihsan is capable and ready to continue to higher education,” he said.

When asked about his feelings after receiving direct attention from the Deputy Governor, Ihsan only responded briefly but meaningfully. Ihsan said he just wants to continue schooling and not stop midway.

“Happy, want to continue schooling,” Ihsan concluded.

As additional information, Ihsan’s story went viral on social media when a video showed him bidding farewell to his friends on his last day of school. Ihsan serves as a reminder that there are still children who must struggle hard just to maintain their basic right, namely education.
