Bandung (ANTARA) - West Java Deputy Governor Erwan Setiawan has guaranteed the continuity of education for Ihsan (15), a student at SMPN 1 Tanjungsari who became viral after being forced to drop out of school due to his family’s economic limitations.

This direct intervention was carried out by Erwan during a visit to the school in Sumedang Regency, after a video of Ihsan bidding farewell to his classmates sparked public sympathy on social media.

“I was shocked, you know, that at the state school in Tanjungsari, there’s a child who has to leave and not continue his schooling in class VIII because of economic problems,” said Erwan in a statement in Bandung on Friday.

Erwan emphasised that the West Java Provincial Government is committed to ensuring that no child loses their right to education due to cost constraints.

Erwan stated that he would personally meet with Ihsan’s family to provide certainty about the teenager’s future.

As a concrete step, Erwan provided education cost assistance until SMP graduation as well as complete school equipment, from bags and shoes to new uniforms, so that Ihsan could return to his class VIII bench.

For Erwan, Ihsan’s figure reflects thousands of children who have strong determination but are hindered by financial conditions. He hopes that Ihsan can prove his abilities despite starting from limitations.

“I hope Ihsan continues his schooling, shows that Ihsan is capable and ready to continue to higher levels,” said Erwan.

Meanwhile, Ihsan, who was visited directly by the number two official in West Java on Wednesday (22/4), appeared moved.

The student from Babakan Situ expressed his strong desire to return to studying with his peers as soon as possible.

“Happy, want to continue schooling. I just want to keep going to school and not stop halfway,” said Ihsan softly.
