Previously, West Java ranked among the top three provinces for regional Islamic economic and financial development. Erwan stated that this achievement is a source of pride and motivation for all stakeholders to strengthen West Java’s Islamic economic ecosystem. “It is certainly a source of pride that West Java has made the top three in the Anugerah Adinata Syariah awards for 2026. Last year, West Java secured the overall champion title by achieving top results across multiple categories,” Erwan said in a written statement on Monday, 25 May 2026. The activity followed a letter from the National Sharia Economic and Financial Committee (KNEKS) regarding provincial-level Sharia economic award data validation, held with the judging committee at the Al-Jabbar Grand Mosque Education Room in Bandung on Thursday, 21 May. Erwan further explained that in 2025, West Java received the highest awards in nine out of 12 categories. This year, the number of categories has increased to 14, so all parties are urged to conduct evaluations and improvements to optimise West Java’s performance. Erwan noted that West Java’s success did not come overnight but was the result of cross-sector collaboration in building an inclusive and sustainable Sharia economy. “This achievement did not happen by itself but is the result of collaboration among all stakeholders, cross-sector synergy, and a commitment to creating a strong and beneficial Sharia economic ecosystem for the public,” Erwan said. He stressed that the West Java Provincial Government will continue expanding Sharia economic development across various sectors, including halal industry, Muslim-friendly tourism, pesantren education, Sharia banking, and halal certification. Erwan also advocated for the establishment of Sharia industrial zones in West Java. He noted that the majority of industrial workers in the province are Muslim, necessitating a Sharia-compliant ecosystem with adequate prayer facilities, halal food, and other support services. “Given that the majority of workers in West Java are Muslim, the Sharia industrial ecosystem must be strengthened, from prayer facilities and halal food to other support services,” he added. Additionally, he promoted sport tourism as part of the Sharia ecosystem, citing the Gelora Bandung Lautan Api (GBLA) stadium as an example where representative prayer facilities should be provided for visitors, particularly Muslim Bobotoh (Persib supporters). Meanwhile, West Java Sharia Economic and Financial Committee (KDEKS) Chairperson Diana Sari stressed that West Java continues to improve despite being the overall champion last year. “We are not resting on our laurels after winning the overall title. We are continuously working to ensure West Java deserves this recognition,” Diana said. She highlighted West Java’s potential as a national Sharia economic hub with a Muslim population of approximately 50.4 million. This potential is bolstered by growth in halal industry, Muslim-friendly tourism, Sharia finance, and pesantren-based economic empowerment. According to Diana, West Java currently has the highest number of halal-certified products in Indonesia. The province has also achieved strategic milestones, including being named the best national halal tourism destination in the 2025 Indonesia Muslim Travel Index, developing 21 KHAS zones (Halal, Safe, and Healthy Cuisine), and Sharia banking assets growing to around Rp 105 trillion in 2025. Furthermore, West Java has 12,977 pesantren, accounting for 30.6% of Indonesia’s total, which is considered a significant asset for developing pesantren-based Sharia economic development. “From West Java, we aim to prove that Sharia economy is not only strong in value but also delivers tangible benefits for community welfare,” she concluded.
