West Java Council pushes for equal distribution of senior high schools across all districts
The West Java Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) is pushing for the acceleration of equal distribution of secondary education services by building more senior high schools (SMA) and vocational schools (SMK) in sub-districts that currently do not have them.
Member of Commission IV of the West Java DPRD, Daddy Rohanady, stated that there are still around 114 sub-districts in West Java without an SMA or SMK, making equal access to education a pressing issue that must be resolved immediately.
“I am one of those who insists that from 627 sub-districts in West Java, there are still 144 sub-districts that do not have an SMA or SMK. Hopefully, that number has now decreased,” Daddy said in Bandung on Tuesday.
He explained that the DPRD, through the Budget Committee, continues to push for the construction of new school units in areas with limited access to secondary education.
Daddy highlighted the situation in Talun Sub-district, Cirebon Regency, where students from several villages still have to continue their education in other regencies due to the absence of local SMA or SMK facilities.
“How can we not be concerned when children have to go to school in another regency? This must be our shared concern,” he said.
Besides Talun, he noted that many other sub-districts also require additional secondary schools. Therefore, the DPRD is committed to ensuring that these needs are included in the regional development planning.
He emphasised that educational development must be part of the effort to improve the quality of human resources in West Java, as it can broaden access to education while reducing inter-regional disparities.
He expressed hope that the synergy between the DPRD and the West Java Provincial Government would accelerate the equal distribution of education services across all regions.
“Ultimately, our goal is the same: to provide better education services for the people of West Java,” he concluded.
