West Java Corrections Office Proposes Amnesty for 1,454 Prisoners
The West Java Regional Office of the Directorate General of Corrections under the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections has revealed that it is proposing amnesty for 1,454 prisoners to the president. Around 1,100 of the prisoners proposed for amnesty are part of the national amnesty programme.
“We are still waiting for the actual amnesty decree. There are 1,454 amnesty decrees still awaiting the president’s signature,” said Ishadi Maja Prayitno, Head of the Corrections Division at the West Java Directorate General of Corrections.
He said that once presidential approval is obtained, the prisoners will be included in the reserve component. “We are still waiting for implementing guidelines and technical instructions from the government. The remainder are humanitarian amnesty cases — prolonged illness, advanced age and so on. They will be released directly,” he said.
Specifically for the national amnesty programme, participants must undergo education. The amnesty programme application will be carried out in 2026. Meanwhile, no clemency requests were submitted by prisoners from West Java.
He added that there are 20,500 prisoners across West Java who received general remission category 1 and general remission category 2, or immediate release. A total of 346 people received general remission category 2.
“The total is 20,500. Of these, 346 received general remission category 2 and were released immediately,” he said.
For corruption convicts at Sukamiskin Prison, he said there are 430 people who received remission, including general prisoners. One of the corruption convicts who received remission is Immanuel Ebenezer.
“All of them received it, including corruption convicts,” he said.
He continued that prisoners who have served sentences of 6 to 12 months receive one month of remission. Those serving more than one year receive 2 months of remission, while those serving two years receive 3 months, four years receive 5 months, and 6 months for prisoners serving more than 6 years. Life-sentenced prisoners do not receive remission.
