West Java Concludes 2026 Pancawaluya Student Orientation with Ecological Action

The West Java Provincial Government has officially concluded the 2026 Pancawaluya School Environment Introduction Period (MPLS) with a major ecological action. The event was centralised at the Cikutra Heroes’ Cemetery (TMP) in Bandung and simultaneously held across 882 state schools, involving a total of 343,374 new students from grades X of senior high schools (SMA), vocational schools (SMK), and special needs schools (SLB). Of these participants, 327,604 were from state schools.

West Java Regional Secretary Herman Suryatman stressed that the ecological action was not merely a closing ceremony for MPLS but the beginning of character building that must be realised in daily life. ‘This activity is only symbolic. The most important thing is the real action after returning home, to school, and to the community,’ he stated. Herman encouraged students to engage in domestic activities as part of character development, citing simple habits like sweeping the house, washing and ironing their own clothes, helping parents trade or farm, and maintaining environmental cleanliness as exercises for building leadership, independence, responsibility, and social awareness. ‘The best way to predict the future is to create it today. Start with small, simple things, but do them consistently. These good habits will shape your character and lead you to become future leaders,’ he asserted, adding that success is determined not only by academic ability but also by character and soft skills built through positive daily routines.

Head of the West Java Education Office, Purwanto, explained that the ecological action is part of pedagogical practice in implementing Pancawaluya character education, which is expected to become a culture in all educational units. ‘This is not a one-day activity. It is a learning practice that must become a habit at school, starting from maintaining personal hygiene, classrooms, schoolyards, to the surrounding environment as part of character education,’ he said. The action was carried out collaboratively with River Clean Up Indonesia, the Sapulidi Community, regional apparatus, the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the National Police (Polri), and various other environmental communities. Activities included ‘operasi semut’ (litter-picking operations), cleaning areas and rivers, and maintaining the heroes’ cemetery, alongside environmental education sessions. Besides the main location at TMP Cikutra, activities were also held at SMAN 3 Bandung and SMAN 5 Bandung with the Pandawara Group, as well as in all educational units across West Java. The movement aims to ensure the spirit of cleanliness and environmental conservation does not stop at MPLS but grows into a culture embodying the values of being healthy, kind, righteous, intelligent, and caring.
