The West Java Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) recorded 132 forest and land fire (karhutla) incidents throughout August 2026. These events occurred across 91 sub-districts and 153 villages or urban wards, with a total burned area reaching 196.40 hectares.

Hadi Rahmat, Public Relations Officer of West Java BPBD, detailed that Sumedang Regency was the area with the highest frequency of forest and land fires, with 20 incidents. “The burned area covered 21.68 hectares across 11 sub-districts and 21 villages or urban wards,” Hadi said when confirmed on Wednesday (26/8).

Meanwhile, the largest affected land area occurred in Sukabumi Regency. In that region, the most extensive land damage reached 49.20 hectares from 12 incidents spread across 11 sub-districts and 15 villages or urban wards.

In Majalengka Regency, 15 incidents were recorded with a burned area of 25.91 hectares. This was followed by Kuningan Regency with 10 incidents and a burned area of 23.80 hectares, and Cirebon Regency with 8 incidents and a burned area of 20.73 hectares.

Forest and land fires also occurred in Bandung Regency with 13 incidents covering 16.80 hectares. Subang Regency followed with 11 incidents totalling 9.53 hectares.

“In Purwakarta Regency there were 10 incidents with an affected land area of 8.22 hectares, extending to urban areas such as Sukabumi City, Bandung City, and Depok City with smaller impact scales,” he explained.
