West Java BPBD deploys 20 personnel to assist NTT earthquake victims

The West Java Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) has dispatched 20 personnel to assist in handling communities affected by the earthquake in Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT).

Head of the West Java BPBD, Teten Ali Mulku Engkun, said the deployment is a follow-up to the West Java Governor’s directive to ensure that aid collected from the West Java community can be distributed in a planned manner and according to need.

“In accordance with the directive of the West Java Governor, we are moving early by deploying personnel to ascertain conditions and needs on the ground,” Teten said in Bandung on Thursday.

According to him, the team will conduct assessments and coordinate with the local government and BPBD to obtain the latest information regarding the condition of the area and the priority needs of the affected communities.

“The team will conduct assessments and coordinate with the local government and BPBD, so that aid from the West Java community can truly be distributed on target, according to need, and reach the communities in need,” he said.

Teten emphasised that the delivery of humanitarian aid requires not only speed but also planning and coordination so that the assistance provided matches the actual conditions at the disaster site.

Upon arrival in NTT, he said, the team will coordinate with the BPBD, local government, and relevant elements in the emergency disaster response.

The coordination includes mapping needs, locations for receiving and storing aid, and the distribution mechanism to affected areas.

“The results of the team’s assessment will subsequently serve as the basis for preparing the operational plan for distributing aid from West Java so that distribution can take place quickly, in a coordinated manner, and reach the communities most in need,” he said.

In its implementation, the West Java BPBD is also involving Wanadri volunteers as part of collaboration between the government and community elements in supporting humanitarian operations in the affected areas.

Teten said the West Java BPBD will continue to monitor developments in the affected areas and coordinate with relevant parties to ensure that humanitarian aid from West Java can be distributed effectively.
