West Jakarta's Latumenten Road Gridlocked Until Midnight, Residents Hope Flyover Will Be the Solution

City residents regularly experience traffic congestion around Grogol Station on Jalan Prof Dr Latumenten, West Jakarta, until midnight. They hope the flyover currently under construction will resolve the traffic problem.

One online motorcycle taxi driver, Hotman, said congestion on Jalan Latumenten has become a daily activity. He joked that the road is only free of traffic after midnight. “It’s only not jammed at night, at 1 a.m.,” he said when met at the Latumenten flyover project construction area, West Jakarta, on Saturday.

Passengers also understand that if they get off at Grogol Station and continue their journey, they cannot be in a hurry. “Customers already know. They really know that the direction is definitely jammed. So they can’t expect to rush, they can’t, they already know, they understand,” he said. Hotman hopes the flyover at Latumenten can solve the congestion. “Who knows, with this project, it might not be so jammed anymore,” he said.

Another online motorcycle taxi driver, Adit (35), recounted experiencing traffic on Latumenten around 11 p.m. local time. He is based in the area and takes four to five orders every day. “In the morning, it’s like this. Until night, until 11 p.m., it’s still jammed. Even without construction, it’s already jammed,” he said. Adit expressed the same hope as Hotman. He wants the project to be completed on target, by December 2026. “Hopefully it can reduce the traffic later, hopefully it will be finished as the Governor said. December this year, if I’m not mistaken,” said Adit. “Looking at the construction, it looks like the end of the year, it can’t be next year,” he added.

Previously, DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung targeted the construction of the Latumenten flyover in West Jakarta to be completed by 15 December 2026. The presence of this flyover is believed to be able to cut vehicle travel time by 10 to 15 minutes because it will no longer be obstructed by the level railway crossing. “The Latumenten flyover is one of the most anticipated flyovers in Jakarta. Here, in the morning, afternoon, and evening, the congestion is very high. So when I received a proposal for this flyover to be built immediately, I said this is a top priority to ease congestion in the Grogol, Pluit, Slipi, and surrounding areas,” Pramono said during an inspection of the Latumenten flyover project in West Jakarta on Thursday.

“Currently, the progress is 55.2 percent, with a budget of Rp 259 billion. This is one of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government’s priority projects, which I hope can be completed by 15 December 2026,” he continued. According to Pramono, once the flyover is operational, the level railway crossing in the area will be closed so that vehicles will no longer pass under the tracks. This measure is being taken to reduce congestion as well as prevent accidents at the railway crossing. “I hope the completion of the Latumenten flyover is on time and hopefully makes Jakarta’s transport connectivity better,” he said.
