West Jakartans to get new telephone facilities
JAKARTA (JP): The West Jakarta Telecommunications Office is
now offering the public five new telecommunications facilities,
the office's head Jimmy Villanueva has announced.
The first of the five new facilities is the "Abbreviated
Dialing Service", which enables customers to dial a telephone
number while pressing fewer digits, Villanueva said on Tuesday.
The second new facility is the "Hotline Service", which
enables customers to be select one important number for automatic
dialing. Subscribers to this service need only lift the receiver
and wait 15 seconds, after which time the number is dialed
automatically.
The third facility is the "Conference Call", which enables a
customer to have a telephone conversation with two other people
simultaneously.
The fourth facility is "Follow Me", which enables calls to the
customer's office numbers to be transferred to anywhere they
wish.
The fifth facility is the "Call Waiting Service", which
enables customers to receive other incoming calls while their
line is being used. The customer is warned by a tone that another
call is waiting. The first call may be interrupted in order to
answer the second.
Meanwhile, East Jakarta Telecommunications Office Chief I
Nyoman Punia announced on Tuesday that the company will refund
money to those customers who paid an installation in 1994 but had
not had their phone connected until 1995. The refund is due
because the installation fee has been reduced as of January 1,
1995.
Minister of Tourism, Post and Telecommunications Joop Ave
said on Dec. 28 that the new installation charges will be levied
on the basis of three classifications: business, housing and
public facilities.
The installation fee for a telephone line in Jakarta, for
instance, will be Rp 934,100 ($411) for businesses, Rp 722,500
for households and government and military offices and Rp 577,050
($256) for public facilities. Previously the installation fee had
been a flat Rp 1,011,000 ($456).
Punia said Rp 76,900 would be refunded to customers who use
their telephone lines for business purposes, Rp 288,450 to those
who had household lines installed and Rp 433,950 to people whose
lines provided for public use.
He said the restitution would be made to all customers who
paid the fees at telecommunications service offices in East
Jakarta.(mas)
