The West Jakarta Water Resources Agency (Sudin SDA) is gradually changing the method of transporting river sediment resulting from dredging operations as part of an effort to prevent flooding.

The Head of the West Jakarta Water Resources Agency, Mustajab, stated that previously, sediment transport was carried out simultaneously across several dredging points.

“We have now changed the method. Transportation is now conducted using the full fleet at one dredging point before moving to another,” Mustajab said when contacted by ANTARA in Jakarta on Friday.

Transport is carried out once one dredging segment has been completed.

“We will no longer divide the truck fleet, as it is no longer effective. If we spread them out, the work won’t be finished. For example, we will transport one segment using 30 dump trucks; once that is complete, we will move downstream or upstream to areas where dredging has not yet been performed,” explained Mustajab.

Dredging is currently underway at 10 locations across West Jakarta, including the Mookervaart River, Angke River, Grogol River, Semongol River, Sepak River, and Citra River.

In the Grogol River, the agency has divided the dredging into two segments: the Latumeten and Kemanggisan areas.

“Dredging in Latumeten is new, whereas in the Kemanggisan area of the Grogol River, we have been working for almost three weeks. We have moved the mud material to the side, and 21 dump trucks transport it in a single day. This is how the method will proceed,” he added.
