West Jakarta Vocational Training Centre Organises Driving Course to Boost Employability
The West Jakarta Regional Vocational Training Centre (PPKD) has once again organised a car driving training programme for 80 participants, aimed at providing them with the necessary skills to seek employment or start their own businesses.
“With the skills acquired, participants can work as drivers for companies, private individuals, or public transport, or even work as online taxi drivers,” said the Head of PPKD West Jakarta, Siti Nurbaeti, in Jakarta on Monday.
Siti stated that the driving training is scheduled to run from Thursday (7 May) until next Tuesday (26 May). During the training, participants will receive theoretical classroom instruction and practical driving sessions accompanied by professional instructors. The theoretical curriculum includes traffic regulations, efficient driving techniques, vehicle condition familiarity, and driving safety.
According to Siti, in addition to completing the training, participants will also be able to obtain a Category A driving licence (SIM A) upon passing an examination. “At the final stage, we will conduct an examination. If they pass, they will receive their SIM A,” she added.
Siti further noted that the training aims to provide expertise so that participants possess driving skills and a valid licence, which are expected to serve as a foundation for finding work or establishing their own businesses to improve their welfare. The final day, 26 May, will involve both the subject matter examination and the driving licence test.
The West Jakarta Municipal Government continues to intensify various vocational training programmes to reduce the unemployment rate in the region. According to the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), the open unemployment rate in West Jakarta reached 6.18 per cent in 2025, representing approximately 76,680 people out of the total labour force, a figure dominated by high school and vocational school graduates.
