Jakarta (ANTARA) - The West Jakarta Sub-District Office for Tourism and Creative Economy (Sudin Parekraf) is urging hotels in its area to provide more disability-friendly facilities, in line with the city government’s instructions to create an inclusive environment for all groups. “Indeed, there are already some hotels that are disability-friendly, which is why we continue to encourage hotels to become suitable and friendly spaces for people with disabilities. This is also in accordance with the Mayor’s instructions, so that West Jakarta is disability-friendly,” said the Head of the Hotel Industry Section of Sudin Parekraf West Jakarta, Gun Gun Mujiantara, when contacted by ANTARA in Jakarta on Friday. The office incorporates this appeal into every routine inspection of hotels in the area. “So in the inspections, besides checking document completeness, we also convey this appeal, that hotels should be friendly to people with disabilities. And some that haven’t yet have started implementing it,” said Gun Gun. Based on 2023 data, said Gun Gun, the number of star-rated hotels from 1 to 5 is only 54, while non-star hotels number 70. “That doesn’t include motels and apartments,” he added. According to data compiled by ANTARA, disability-friendly hotels have several special facilities. Among them are providing independent accessibility in the form of ramps with a maximum slope of seven degrees and a minimum width of 120 centimetres. They also have special disability bathrooms (spacious, wheelchair access, grab bars in the toilet). Then there are braille or voice lift buttons, guiding blocks (guide paths), and trained staff. These facilities ensure the mobility and independence of guests with disabilities.
