West Jakarta to take firm action against owner of building in Tegal Alur waterway
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The West Jakarta City Government (Pemkot Jakbar) will take firm action against the owner of a kiosk that has constructed a building over a waterway in the Tegal Alur area, Kalideres. “This morning, colleagues from the Cengkareng Sub-District along with the Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) have directly intervened on the site. This (falls under the area of) Kalideres, Tegal Alur Ward, and it turns out there is a kiosk building being used as a bus ticket sales point,” said West Jakarta Mayor Iin Mutmainnah when confirmed in Jakarta on Friday. According to Iin, the building is obstructing the function of the waterway, thus requiring action from officials. “We will follow up through the enforcement of regional regulations, where buildings must not be present over waterways, which would otherwise hinder their function,” she said. The enforcement will be carried out in stages, beginning with socialisation to the building owners. “We will do it gradually; all colleagues will move according to their main duties and functions. We will carry that out, especially the Water Resources Sub-Directorate (Sudin SDA), which has certainly conducted monitoring and evaluation (Monev) on the impacts caused,” she added. Regarding areas affected by pooling and flooding, Iin mentioned that there are five areas in West Jakarta that are frequently impacted, namely Kembangan, Kalideres, Kebon Jeruk, Cengkareng, and Grogol Petamburan. “Five sub-districts with approximately 36 wards that were affected by flooding on 22 January. This requires intervention or re-checking of the locations impacted by flooding to ensure it does not happen again. It must be mitigated from the start,” she concluded.
