West Jakarta’s Sub-Department of Tourism and Creative Economy (Parekraf) held a technical guidance programme for developing the creative economy in the field of photography at the Museum of Ceramic Fine Arts, Tamansari, on Thursday. Sherly Yuliana, head of Parekraf West Jakarta, said the photography sub-sector is currently one of the fast-growing areas of the creative economy, in line with rising demand for visual content on digital media, promotion of businesses, the tourism industry, marketing of MSME products, and even the entertainment industry. ‘Photography is no longer viewed merely as a hobby, but has developed into a profession and a promising business opportunity for the community, especially the younger creative generation,’ she said when contacted in Jakarta on Thursday. The event is seen as part of the Jakarta Barat city government’s commitment to supporting the development of human resources in the creative economy who are adaptive, innovative and able to compete in the digital era. During the programme, 75 participants were given basic understanding up to practical photography techniques that can support their ability to produce high-quality visual works. The materials included an introduction to and inspection of camera equipment, lighting adjustment using the exposure triangle concept, techniques for determining shooting angles, and photo composition that is aesthetically engaging. ‘The targets are creative economy players, photography communities, school pupils, students, content creators, and the general public who have an interest in developing,’ she said. She added that photography plays an important role in supporting tourism promotion, MSME development, and the digitally-based creative industry. Through this technical guidance, Sherly aims to provide a learning space for creative practitioners to have improved technical skills, understand the development of the photography industry, and be able to produce works with economic value so that income will rise. In addition to enhancing technical skills, the activity is expected to strengthen networks and collaboration among Jakarta Barat’s creative practitioners. ‘We hope this activity will be the first step in the birth of new creative talents in Jakarta Barat who can compete professionally and contribute to the growth of the local creative economy,’ she concluded. For information, the event was conducted in collaboration with the National Association of Indonesian Photography Professionals (APFI) as speakers.
