West Jakarta to Hold Mass Circumcisions and Free Cataract Surgeries in June-August

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The West Jakarta city government will soon hold a social service event featuring mass circumcisions and free cataract surgeries at the mayor’s office in June and August. West Jakarta City Secretary Firmanuddin Ibrahim stated that the social service is intended for underprivileged families in the area. “We plan to collaborate with the private sector through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes,” Firman said in Jakarta on Thursday (7/5). Firman mentioned that 500 children from low-income families will participate in the mass circumcision. His team has coordinated with district heads and village heads to survey their respective areas, prioritising orphans and residents of the Rusun Angke, Tambora, and Rusun Pesakih in Cengkareng public housing complexes. “Each village will send its delegation. We are also encouraging CSR involvement to provide additional pocket money for the children to make them more enthusiastic,” Firman said. Meanwhile, the free cataract surgery programme will take place in August, targeting 250 participants to mark the anniversary of Indonesia’s Independence Day. “This programme is open to residents aged 15 to 80 years. The venue is currently being evaluated at several regional public hospitals in West Jakarta,” he added. Furthermore, Firman noted that this programme impacts residents’ productivity, including school-age prospective patients who face educational obstacles due to vision impairments. “This activity is crucial. From being unable to see to regaining their sight, they can then take package exams or return to work,” he added. To anticipate no-shows due to technical issues, his team has asked the organising committee to prepare transportation facilities for participants and accompanying family members. The West Jakarta city government will also mobilise PKK cadres, Dasawisma groups, and RT/RW officials to conduct initial screenings in the field. This synergy is expected to ensure that all quotas are met and accurately targeted, without any residents missing out on the information. “Screen all areas of West Jakarta, ensure that underprivileged residents receive this assistance,” he emphasised.
