The West Jakarta city government is refining plans for developing a Transit Oriented Development (TOD) area that will be directly integrated with Tangerang City. The project is seen as a solution to congestion while promoting economic growth in the Jakarta-Tangerang border region. West Jakarta Mayor Iin Mutmainah emphasised that road infrastructure development must consider connectivity between the capital and its supporting areas. According to Iin, mobility in the West Jakarta-Tangerang border area is one of the most heavily used routes by the public. This is evident from the high volume of vehicles on the arterial roads connecting the two regions. Therefore, she stressed the importance of collaboration between local governments so that development in one area does not create problems in another. Iin also mentioned that the TOD project’s funding will not rely solely on the regional budget but will also use alternative financing schemes or creative financing. Meanwhile, the Head of the West Jakarta Road Infrastructure Service, Taufik Hendayana, revealed that one crucial development point is in the Jalan Basoka area, Joglo, Kembangan, West Jakarta. This location is considered strategic because it directly borders Tangerang City, but it still requires attention from the government. “The TOD-based area development in West Jakarta will directly interface with Tangerang City, one of which is in the Jalan Basoka area. Although the asset is under the Road Infrastructure Service, its utilisation can be prepared for sustainable green space or to support the economic sector,” explained Taufik. However, Taufik acknowledged that the biggest current challenge is the still informal inter-regional coordination. He encouraged the establishment of a formal memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the West Jakarta city government and Tangerang city government so that infrastructure projects are not hindered by cross-regional bureaucratic issues.
