West Jakarta to Build Fire Station and Independent Hydrants in Fire-Prone Areas
The West Jakarta City Government will build a Fire Station and independent hydrants in a fire-prone residential area of RW 03, Duri Utara Urban Village, Tambora District, on 18 August 2026. West Jakarta Mayor Iin Mutmainnah stated that based on the results of a DKI Jakarta Provincial Government leadership meeting, West Jakarta is the area with the highest number of fire cases in Jakarta. This condition, she said, is exacerbated by the limited number of independent hydrants and the difficulty of obtaining water sources during fires in densely populated areas. “The number of independent hydrants in West Jakarta is the lowest compared to other regions. During the recent incidents in Tambora and Mangga Besar, officers had to draw water from the river or the city centre because it was difficult to find water points around the location,” Iin said in Jakarta, Monday. According to her, out of 11 urban villages in Tambora District, only four have fire stations. Therefore, the West Jakarta City Government is trying to improve fire prevention facilities and infrastructure in every urban village. “For the administration, KIB A will be transferred to the West Jakarta Gulkarmat Sub-agency, while the physical construction is coordinated through the Environmental Sub-agency. A multifunctional facility will also be built at the location to serve as a Gulkarmat post and a new waste disposal point so that waste management can continue without blocking road access,” Iin said. Meanwhile, Duri Utara Urban Village Head Ari Kurnia said the West Jakarta Mayor has issued instructions to prepare a location that can be used as a Fire Station. “The main priority for the location is to be used as a Fire Station,” Ari stated. He added that for waste management, the RW 03 depot will be relocated by implementing a transit or drop point system on Jalan KH Mas Mansur, right next to the RT 03/RW 03 petrol station. The system will be used for the loading and unloading of waste from night until early morning so as not to disturb residents’ activities. “The location has a wide road shoulder, where it is estimated that two trucks can load and unload waste. According to the leadership’s direction, it can be tried tomorrow, where the loading and unloading process is after 12 midnight. Waste carts dispose of rubbish and by 3.00 a.m. Western Indonesia Time it is clear,” Ari explained. The construction of the Fire Station is planned to be marked by a groundbreaking ceremony as part of the fire prevention kick-off for all of West Jakarta on 18 August 2026 in the Duri Utara area.
