Jakarta (ANTARA) - The West Jakarta City Government (Pemkot Jakbar) has affirmed its support for the mass production of eco-enzymes, which is targeted to achieve a record in the Museum of Indonesian World Records (MURI).

West Jakarta Mayor Iin Mutmainah explained that the initiative, spearheaded by the Sedulur Bunda Milenial Foundation, features a unique concept requiring female participants to wear kebaya during the eco-enzyme production process.

The event is scheduled to take place between June and September 2026 as part of the celebrations for the 499th anniversary of DKI Jakarta.

“This activity is highly positive. It not only aims to secure a MURI record but also builds public awareness in processing organic waste into something beneficial for the environment,” said Iin in Jakarta on Monday.

According to her, the concept of requiring female participants to wear kebaya also strengthens cultural identity amid Jakarta’s transformation into a global city.

“It is hoped that this activity will not end with mere ceremonies but will be sustainable and have a real impact on environmental cleanliness, particularly the rivers in West Jakarta,” she stated.

Therefore, her side is optimistic that the event will serve as a concrete step in building public awareness of the importance of environmental preservation, while also conserving culture amid urban development.

“As a result, organic waste that is usually discarded can be processed into a beneficial liquid, making our environment better,” she emphasised.

Meanwhile, Chair of the Sedulur Bunda Milenial Foundation, Siska Rumondor, explained that the activity will involve around 6,000 participants from across DKI Jakarta. Specifically for West Jakarta, the target is 1,200 participants, comprising PKK cadres to junior high school students.

In this event, the public will be invited to process fruit peel waste into eco-enzymes, a liquid resulting from fermentation that benefits environmental cleanliness. This effort includes helping to maintain and improve river water quality.

The series of activities is planned in three stages: the first stage involves workshops and simultaneous eco-enzyme production across all sub-districts.

The second stage is the harvest and environmental action, where the three-month fermentation results will be poured into several rivers and reservoirs, such as Puri Mansion Reservoir and Kembangan River, accompanied by fish seed dispersal and the planting of productive trees.

“Subsequently, the activity will conclude with a ceremonial event and the Clean River 202 Declaration as a collective commitment to preserving the environment,” she affirmed.
