West Jakarta serves 30,895 suspected TB patients until end of May 2026
The West Jakarta City Government is intensifying its efforts to manage tuberculosis (TB) by providing medical services to 30,859 suspected TB patients as of the end of May 2026. According to monitoring data for the period of 1 January to 31 May 2026, these patients have received care in accordance with established medical standards, stated the Head of the West Jakarta Health Sub-Department, Sahruna.
During the first five months of 2026, the coverage for detecting and treating TB cases in the West Jakarta area has reached 4,438 patients. This realisation represents a positive trend compared to data from 15 April 2026, which had only detected 3,027 cases, and serves as part of the effort to achieve the target of detecting 11,955 TB cases in West Jakarta this year.
Sahruna noted that the number of identified cases is projected to continue increasing due to massive early detection efforts in the field. This step is a commitment to supporting the target of TB elimination in DKI Jakarta by 2030. The West Jakarta Health Sub-Department is implementing two types of detection strategies: active and passive. Active efforts include health screenings, free health checks (CKG) within the community, and the work of TB cadres in the field, while passive efforts involve suspected patients presenting themselves at health facilities.
Every health facility in West Jakarta is applying strict procedures through accurate and rapid diagnostic enforcement, utilising sputum examinations and radiology (X-rays) as medically indicated. Sahruna emphasised that all patients within the treatment coverage (4,438 patients) are guaranteed care according to applicable quality standards. The department also conducts regular monitoring of medication adherence and performs examinations on close contacts of TB patients. As a preventive measure to prevent widespread transmission, close contacts who are declared healthy are provided with TB Preventive Therapy (TPT). The West Jakarta Health Sub-Department continues to intensify health promotion through education on Clean and Healthy Living Behaviours (PHBS), cough etiquette, immunisation, and the dissemination of information regarding access to health services for those experiencing TB symptoms.
