West Jakarta SDA to Build Drainage Channel to Tackle Flooding in Joglo, Kembangan

The West Jakarta Water Resources (SDA) Sub-department will construct a drainage channel from Jalan Kedaung 2 to the Jalan Raya Joglo intersection, RW 08, to tackle inundation on Jalan H. Mochtar Raya in Joglo, Kembangan. West Jakarta SDA Head Mustajab confirmed on Monday that the channel would run from the border of South Jakarta and West Jakarta, precisely on Jalan Kedaung II, towards the Jalan Joglo Raya intersection, and be connected to the Puri Botanical connecting channel (Phb). During construction, the Kembangan SDA Task Force has been instructed to prepare one water pump and a jetting vehicle. “If flooding occurs at any time, we have prepared a water pump and jetting vehicle to drain the inundated channel,” he stated. Meanwhile, the South Jakarta SDA Sub-department will carry out concrete casting for potholes. Mustajab added that they would also build a channel at the border aligned with the drainage being constructed by West Jakarta SDA, as it forms part of an integrated water management system. Kembangan Sub-district Head M. Fahmi Karsawijaya said that construction would begin with community socialisation next week. “Next Wednesday, a socialisation activity will be held at the location where the drainage work will be carried out to address the flooding on Jalan H. Mochtar Raya,” Fahmi said. Meanwhile, Head of the DKI Jakarta Bina Marga Agency’s Data and Information Centre, Siti Dinarwenny, added that road repairs would commence after the drainage work is completed. “Once the drainage channel is properly fixed, Bina Marga will then step in to repair the road. At present, I do not yet understand the road construction details. The key point is to fix the drainage first. Once that is correct, whether the road is asphalted with cast concrete or hotmix, there will be no problems if there is no standing water,” she elaborated. Previously, conditions on Jalan H. Mochtar Raya in Joglo went viral on social media and garnered widespread public attention. Netizens complained of permanent standing water that remained even during clear weather without rain. The situation became increasingly hazardous as the water concealed potholes, causing several motorcyclists to fall. The border area, often dubbed an ‘eternal flood’ zone by netizens, sparked criticism over the slow cross-regional coordination between West Jakarta, South Jakarta, and Tangerang City. Through the drainage improvements by the SDA Sub-department and subsequent road resurfacing by the Bina Marga Sub-department, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is committed to permanently resolving the flooding and damaged road issues in the border area.
