West Jakarta Screen Printing Business Given Seven Days to Fix Waste Disposal
The West Jakarta Environment Sub-agency (Sudin LH) has given the owner of a screen printing business on Jalan Hemat I, Jelambar Urban Village, Tambora, a seven-day deadline to repair a leaking waste disposal channel that is contaminating residential drainage.
This firm action was taken after a joint task force conducted mediation and an on-site inspection following up on community complaints regarding alleged environmental pollution.
“We are giving the business owner seven days to repair the waste disposal channel so that it no longer contaminates the surrounding environment,” said Gamma Nanda Bhaskoro, Head of the Supervision and Legal Structuring Section at Sudin LH West Jakarta, on Thursday.
Gamma explained that during the inspection involving 10 joint officers, the team discovered a leak in the screen printing business’s waste channel.
“Because of this leak, production waste, from screen washing, ink use, and chemical cleaning agents, flows directly into the residents’ drainage,” he said.
According to Gamma, if left unchecked without proper management, these materials have significant potential to damage the surrounding soil ecosystem and clean water channels.
Therefore, Sudin LH West Jakarta stressed that the business operator must immediately fix their disposal system to comply with applicable environmental standards.
In addition to setting a deadline for the physical repair of the leaking channel, he also reminded the business owner to conduct a thorough evaluation of their waste management.
“Business operators need to implement good waste management, such as providing a simple waste treatment installation, storing leftover ink and chemicals in special containers, and using more environmentally friendly materials. Educating workers is also important to prevent pollution,” he stated.
Sudin LH West Jakarta hopes that this rapid response and the setting of a deadline will serve as a lesson for other home-based business operators in the West Jakarta area to consistently pay attention to environmental sustainability and the comfort of surrounding residents in running their businesses.
