West Jakarta repairs drainage channel in Tambora to prevent flooding
The West Jakarta Water Resources Sub-agency (Sudin SDA) is repairing a 190-metre water channel on Jalan Betet Dalam, Pekojan Urban Village, Tambora, to reduce the potential for inundation in the area. The repairs involve widening the channel, improving the channel construction, and installing concrete slab culverts at several points requiring attention. “The aim is for the channel capacity to effectively accommodate and channel rainwater, so the risk of inundation in residential neighbourhoods can be minimised,” said Mulyadi, Head of the Tambora SDA Implementation Unit, when confirmed in Jakarta on Monday. Mulyadi added that channel maintenance and repair are important steps in supporting the flood control system in the region. “This water channel repair is very important to prevent inundation and flooding in the surrounding area. We hope that after the work is completed, water flow will be smoother and the residents’ environment will be more comfortable,” he said. In addition to improving the function of drainage infrastructure, Mulyadi said this activity is also part of ongoing efforts to maintain environmental quality. “We hope the community can feel the benefits in the form of a safer, more comfortable environment free from inundation, especially during the rainy season,” he concluded.
