Jakarta — The Sexual Violence and Trafficking in Persons Unit (PPA and TPPO) of West Jakarta Metro Police has uncovered a case of sexual abuse against a minor in the Tambora area, West Jakarta.

The head of the PPA and TPPO unit at West Jakarta Metro Police, Commissioner Nunu Suparmi, stated in a written statement received in Jakarta on Sunday that the police had arrested and designated a 20-year-old youth with the initials AR as a suspect for alleged indecent conduct and sexual coercion against a minor victim.

“We ensure that all case handling processes are conducted professionally with priority given to victim protection,” she said.

Suparmi explained that the case began with a report filed by the victim’s parents with the police. Following the report, investigators immediately conducted a series of investigations, interviewed witnesses, and gathered necessary evidence.

Based on the investigation findings, suspect AR had met the victim through an acquaintance since April 2026. The abuse occurred on Saturday, 23 May, when the suspect invited the victim to his residence. At that location, the suspect allegedly forced the victim into sexual relations three times.

“The victim attempted to resist by clenching her thighs and kicking the perpetrator. The victim also attempted to cry for help, but the perpetrator covered her mouth with his hand,” she stated.

In handling this case, the police prioritised child protection principles and the victim’s psychological recovery. In addition to interviewing the complainant, victim, and witnesses, investigators also processed the crime scene and coordinated with the hospital regarding medical examination results.

“Beyond the legal proceedings against the suspect, the victim has received psychological support and treatment in accordance with applicable procedures through the Jakarta Provincial Child Protection Unit,” she added.

The suspect AR has been detained and charged under Article 473(2)(b) of Law No. 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code of the Republic of Indonesia.
