West Jakarta Police Handle Eruption Impacts, Spraying Roads and Distributing Masks
The West Jakarta Metropolitan Police have actively participated in managing the impacts of volcanic ash from the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau by deploying water cannons to spray roads. Furthermore, police officers are distributing masks and setting up health posts.
The spraying is an anticipatory measure to ensure that dust and volcanic ash on the road surface do not easily become airborne due to vehicle activity or wind. The water cannons traversed several protocol roads, starting from the West Jakarta Metropolitan Police Headquarters, Jalan Daan Moguntas, Jalan Taman S Parman, Jalan Tomang Raya, Jalan L Slipi, returning to Jalan Tomang Raya, and Jalan Palmerah Utara.
“We are taking this step to help reduce the dust and volcanic ash resulting from the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau, which can be blown around by vehicle activity or wind, so as not to disturb road users and the health of the surrounding community,” stated the Chief of West Jakarta Police, Kombes Nasriadi, in a statement on Tuesday (8/9/2026).
He also urged members of the public planning to be active outdoors to remain vigilant and use masks as a protective measure for their respiratory tracts.
“For those intending to go out and carry out activities, we advise always using a mask as an anticipatory step against the negative impacts caused by the spread of volcanic ash from Mount Anak Krakatau,” he added.
In addition to spraying the roads, the West Jakarta Police have also prepared health posts. These health posts are stationed at eight different points to provide services and initial assistance to the public.
The Head of Medical Services at the West Jakarta Metropolitan Police, AKP Ns Agus Waluyo, stated that the presence of these health posts is a form of the National Police’s readiness to serve the community, particularly if residents experience health disturbances due to exposure to dust or volcanic ash. Officers have also prepared masks for the public.
“We are preparing personnel and health facilities at several points that are locations of public activity. This is a form of preparedness in case there are citizens who require medical examinations or health assistance,” said Agus.
Members of the public experiencing health complaints after exposure to volcanic ash can utilise the provided health posts. In addition to providing medical services, field personnel are also continuously reminding the public to maintain their physical condition and use masks when engaging in outdoor activities as a protective measure for their respiratory tracts.
