Jakarta (ANTARA) — The Food Clean Sweep Task Force (Satgas Saber Pangan) of the West Jakarta Metro Police, together with local government officials, inspected food prices and availability at Tomang Barat Market in Grogol Petamburan on Friday.

Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit at West Jakarta Metro Police, Senior Commissioner Arfan Zulkan Sipayung, said the inspection was carried out routinely to ensure price stability and the availability of staple goods in the West Jakarta area, particularly ahead of the holy month of Ramadan.

"Together with relevant agencies, we continue to monitor the prices and availability of basic necessities," said Arfan when contacted in Jakarta on Friday.

Based on the inspection results, Arfan said prices for a number of commodities remained relatively stable, including rice, sugar, cooking oil, meat, eggs and other staple goods.

"They remain available with sufficient stocks," said Arfan.

Arfan stressed that the West Jakarta Metro Police Food Task Force would continue to carry out surveillance to prevent hoarding practices and price manipulation that could harm the public, as well as to ensure the smooth distribution of staple goods.

Meanwhile, Risnawati, a representative of the Sub-department of Food Security, Maritime Affairs and Agriculture (KPKP), added that price monitoring was conducted regularly twice a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

She acknowledged that there had been increases in the prices of several commodities such as chilli and shallots in recent weeks.

"However, stock availability is still considered safe to meet the public's needs during Ramadan," she said.
