West Jakarta Police Dismantle Clandestine Drug Laboratory in Semarang

The West Jakarta Metro Police narcotics unit has dismantled a clandestine laboratory producing Class I narcotics in the form of carisoprodol tablets in the Semarang area, Central Java. The revelation was the result of a case development that began with the arrest of a suspect with the initials PD in the Penjaringan area, North Jakarta. ‘From that arrest, we eventually uncovered the production site in Semarang, Central Java, and apprehended another suspect with the initials DJ,’ said West Jakarta Metro Police Deputy Narcotics Chief Kompol Avrilendy in Jakarta on Monday. He explained that the case began on Thursday (9/4) at around 09:00 WIB, when Unit 3 of the West Jakarta Metro Police Narcotics Unit, led by Kanit 3 AKP Hamdan Agus, took action in a hotel parking area on Jalan Bandengan Selatan, Penjaringan, North Jakarta. ‘At the location, officers arrested suspect PD and found three brown cardboard boxes containing 120,000 Class I narcotic carisoprodol tablets,’ Avrilendy stated. Based on the examination and investigation, officers then expanded their operation to the Semarang area, Central Java, and arrested another suspect with the initials DJ in the Pleburan area, South Semarang. ‘The investigation was further developed, leading to a warehouse on Gang Jati Asri, Wonolopo Village, Mijen District, Semarang City, which was being used as a production site or clandestine lab,’ Avrilendy said. From the clandestine laboratory, officers seized a large quantity of evidence, including a mixer machine for producing carisoprodol tablets and a tablet press machine. ‘Additionally, 188,000 carisoprodol tablets, 10 barrels containing Class I narcotic carisoprodol powder with a total weight of 250 kilograms, and supporting raw materials for the production process with a total weight reaching 1,650 kilograms,’ he added. Avrilendy further explained that, based on the provisional investigation, the clandestine laboratory had been operating since early 2026 until April 2026. The lab is estimated to have produced 1,108,000 carisoprodol tablets over a period of 3 to 4 months, which were allegedly distributed to various cities and across provinces. ‘The team is currently continuing to develop the case to pursue the suppliers or the larger network,’ he added. For their actions, the suspects are charged under Article 610 paragraph (2) letter a and/or Article 609 paragraph (2) letter a of Law No. 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code in conjunction with Law of the Republic of Indonesia No. 1 of 2026 concerning Criminal Adjustments in conjunction with Article 132 paragraph (1) of Law of the Republic of Indonesia No. 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics in conjunction with Law of the Republic of Indonesia No. 1 of 2026 concerning Criminal Adjustments. The suspects face the death penalty, life imprisonment, or a maximum prison sentence of 20 years and a maximum fine of Rp2 billion.
