Jakarta (ANTARA) - A fire struck one of the buildings at the West Jakarta Metropolitan Police Resort on Wednesday morning. In a viral video received by ANTARA, flames engulfed the front section of the second floor of the Satreskrim building at the police resort. The fire appeared to erode easily flammable materials on the exterior of the floor, with burning flames directed towards the upper floor. Thick black smoke billowed into the air and stained the building’s walls. The Head of Operations for the West Jakarta Fire and Rescue Sub-Department, Syaiful Kahfi, confirmed the presence of fire in the area of the West Jakarta Metropolitan Police Resort. “Yes, it’s true, there was a fire earlier in the front building of the West Jakarta Police Resort,” Syaiful said when contacted in Jakarta on Wednesday. Syaiful stated that the fire was now successfully extinguished by the team deployed by the West Jakarta Fire and Rescue Sub-Department. The evacuation of police personnel inside the building proceeded smoothly without issues. “We don’t know which room yet, I’m at the location, alhamdulillah it’s out, the situation is safe and conducive, and the police are also conducting checks,” Syaiful said. Regarding the cause of the fire, Syaiful mentioned that his side, along with the police team, is still conducting an initial investigation. However, he assured that there were no casualties in this fire incident. “The cause is still unknown, it will be further investigated by the team and the police, alhamdulillah everyone is safe, there are no (casualties),” Syaiful stated.
