West Jakarta Police collaborate with community organisations to maintain security during Ramadan
The community organisations involved include the Forum Betawi Rembug (FBR), Gerakan Rakyat Indonesia Bersatu (GRIB), Laskar Merah Putih (LMP), Forum Komunikasi Anak Betawi (Forkabi), Barisan Ansor Serbaguna (Banser), Pokdarkamtibmas Citra Bhayangkara, Saka Bhayangkara, Satuan Perlindungan Masyarakat (Satlinmas), Karang Taruna, and Sentra Komunikasi Mitra Polri (Senkom).
“This is a joint commitment to protect the environment from various potential threats and disturbances, especially during this blessed month of Ramadan,” said West Jakarta Police Chief, Commissioner Twedi Aditya Bennyahdi, during a Ramadan security preparedness meeting in Jakarta on Thursday.
According to Twedi, potential security disturbances can arise from minor issues, ranging from provocations on social media to misunderstandings between groups, and narratives that can divide society.
“Let us work together to create a safe environment for residents, road users, businesses, places of worship, and in the digital space,” he said.
Twedi stated that prevention and early detection are key to maintaining peace in the region, especially in the lead-up to Eid al-Fitr when community activities increase.
He emphasised three main points for the community organisations in West Jakarta. First, they should set an example of order in their respective communities by obeying the rules, maintaining good behaviour in public spaces and online, and avoiding illegal convoys or actions that disrupt public order.
Second, they should reject and stop the spread of provocations, hoaxes, hate speech, and incitement to violence.
“Therefore, the public is urged to filter information before sharing it, check the source, and ensure its accuracy so that the digital space remains healthy and does not become a trigger for conflict on the ground,” he said.
Third, he added, they should prioritise deliberation and communication in resolving any issues, whether in residential areas, businesses, places of worship, or public spaces.
