West Jakarta Police arrest drug abusers during security patrol
West Jakarta Metropolitan Police have arrested four individuals identified as MM (30), MA (18), AM (22), and BS (20) on suspicion of hard drug abuse during a street crime prevention patrol in the Latumenten area. In addition to securing the suspects, police seized two Tramadol tablets and three Hexymer tablets as evidence. ‘They were taken to West Jakarta Metropolitan Police headquarters for further questioning,’ said West Jakarta Metropolitan Police Chief Kombes Pol Twedi Aditya Bennyahdi when questioned in Jakarta on Sunday. The arrests were made on Saturday night (23 May) during a patrol involving 131 personnel from Jakarta Barat’s three-pillar units. Twedi stated that the patrols were conducted in two formats: area patrols and police raids. ‘The patrols targeted high-risk locations and times for street crime and criminal activity,’ Twedi said. Patrols ran from midnight to 5am, covering areas prone to riots, muggings, motorcycle thefts, drug abuse, and other public order disturbances across West Jakarta. The patrols and raids were carried out as a preventive measure to ensure public safety and comfort, particularly during weekends when security threats are more likely. ‘This operation aims to prevent crimes such as muggings, street crimes, vehicle thefts, drug abuse, and riots, allowing the public to feel safe while going about their daily activities or resting,’ Twedi said. During the patrols, authorities inspected several checkpoints, including those at Kebon Jeruk, Palmerah, Tamansari, Tambora, and Grogol Petamburan police stations, as well as a stationary raid at Grogol Petamburan. ‘We also urge the public to actively maintain community safety and report any potential security threats via the 24-hour police hotline 110,’ Twedi added.
