Jakarta — The initial hearing in a citizens’ lawsuit challenging the West Jakarta municipal government’s approval of a funeral home and crematorium project in Kalideres was postponed on Wednesday after the city administration failed to appear at the State Administrative Court (PTUN).

The first hearing, originally scheduled for today, Wednesday 11 March 2026, at PTUN Jakarta was postponed because the defendant, the West Jakarta Municipal Government (Pemkot), was absent from the proceedings.

Budiman Tandiono, coordinator of residents from Citra Garden 2, confirmed that no representative from the West Jakarta mayor’s office was present at PTUN today.

Budiman explained that today’s hearing agenda was still at an early stage of legal proceedings, namely examination of case documentation and administration of the lawsuit filed by residents as the plaintiffs.

“Today’s hearing was supposed to be a preliminary examination hearing where the single judge would review our case files from the power of attorney and our lawsuit,” Budiman said.

Due to the absence of the defendant and various administrative evaluation notes from the judicial panel, the proceedings were ultimately postponed until 31 March 2026.

The judge requested that residents complete and revise several power of attorney documents and lawsuit letters.

“On 31 March the agenda will remain the same—preliminary examination. The preliminary examination hearing period has been given 30 days according to state administrative law procedures,” Budiman explained.

Through legal proceedings at PTUN, residents from four neighbourhoods (RW) affected in Kalideres and Pegadungan hope the regional government will attend to answer for issuing a project permit that is considered to violate applicable regulations.

He also hoped the proceedings would proceed smoothly and residents’ demands would be met by the West Jakarta Municipal Government.

“Our hope going forward is that during the preliminary examination, the defendant will attend the hearing, and we all hope the defendant will soon revoke the Building Permit (PBG) for the Swarga Abadi Foundation so that crematorium construction can be completely halted,” he concluded.

Kompas.com has attempted to contact West Jakarta Mayor Iin Mutmainnah and the Head of the Sub-agency for Public Works, Urban Planning, and Land Administration (Citata) for West Jakarta, Lucia Purbarini, to confirm the municipal government’s absence from the hearing.

However, as of publication, no response or official statement has been provided by the West Jakarta Municipal Government.
