West Jakarta motorcycle theft ring uses crime proceeds to buy crystal meth
JAKARTA — Police have uncovered a five-member motorcycle theft ring operating in Kalideres, West Jakarta, who used proceeds from selling stolen motorcycles to purchase crystal meth. Kalideres Police Station Chief Kompol Rihold Sihotang said the stolen motorcycles were sold for between Rp3 million and Rp4 million each, depending on condition and model. Some suspects admitted the proceeds were used to buy narcotics. The case was reported by a resident on April 22, 2026, leading to an investigation and arrests of the perpetrators and fences. The suspects, identified as RD, PM, MA, YD, and AH, used T-shaped keys to unlock motorcycles and operated at varying times from evening to pre-dawn. They are charged under Article 477 of the new Criminal Code, facing up to seven years in prison. Community Security System (Siskamling) in Tegal Alur assisted the investigation, with a witness providing crucial information during night patrols.
