Jakarta (ANTARA) – West Jakarta Mayor Iin Mutmainnah distributed logistical assistance to victims of a fire in RW 09, Tanah Sereal Village, Tambora District.

“Based on preliminary data, approximately 231 people have been affected,” said Iin whilst inspecting the evacuation site at Darul Jama Mosque, RW 09 Tanah Sereal, on Friday.

Some residents were evacuated to the mosque whilst others sought refuge at relatives’ homes. “The assistance provided today includes toiletries, mineral water, mattresses, and blankets,” she said.

In addition to logistical support, the West Jakarta Municipal Government (Jakbar) will also provide assistance for the needs of infants and young children.

A total of 29 homes were completely destroyed by fire on Tanah Sereal Street 13 RT 11/RW 09 Tanah Sereal, Tambora, West Jakarta, in the early hours of Friday.

Suheri, Head of the West Jakarta Fire Prevention and Rescue Sub-Service (Gulkarmat), stated that residents became aware of the fire at 02.30 local time.

“Residents who were playing karambol saw convection factory workers running for help attempting to extinguish fire that was burning a sewing machine on the first floor,” said Suheri.

The fire then spread to neighbouring buildings. Firefighters arrived at the site at 08.39 and immediately began extinguishing operations.

The department deployed 31 fire units with a strength of 155 personnel to extinguish the fire that covered an area of 1,000 square metres. As a result of the fire, 58 households totalling 231 people had to be evacuated after losing their homes. Additionally, five firefighters were reported injured during the extinguishing operation.
