Jakarta (ANTARA) - West Jakarta Mayor Iin Mutmainnah is preparing several steps to handle the waste problem at the Kembar Jelambar Depot in Grogol Petamburan, from source separation to enforcing rules against violators.

These steps include scheduling collections with standby truck fleets, as well as increasing surveillance at the site through the installation of CCTV and the involvement of the three pillars to prevent indiscriminate waste dumping.

“First, emphasis on waste separation at the source or in households, then scheduling collections with standby truck fleets that are not constrained (broken),” said Iin during her inspection of the Kembar Jelambar Depot with Jakarta DPRD member Kevin Wu on Sunday.

Then, said Iin, surveillance at the site will be tightened with the procurement of CCTV by the monitoring team from the three pillars.

“Violators who dump waste indiscriminately at the site will be dealt with firmly with sanctions,” said Iin.

The Mayor called for community commitment, especially to change the behaviour of waste disposal, so that the classic problem at the site can be resolved permanently.

“We want this to be our collective commitment. The main point is that we have committed to reducing waste at the source, that’s what we’re doing. Starting from the smallest environment, each household, RT, RW and so on. So, behavioural change, we start together,” she said.

Meanwhile, Jakarta DPRD member Kevin Wu expressed his commitment to overseeing the realisation of the waste handling plan at the Kembar Depot.

“After this, we will immediately work together, each with our own authority. We will continue to monitor. I am certainly willing to synergise until this is truly realised,” he said.
