West Jakarta Mayor Inspects Polor Dam to Investigate Causes of Flooding Under Puri Toll Road
Jakarta (ANTARA) - West Jakarta Mayor Iin Mutmainnah inspected the Polor Dam on the Kali Angke in South Kembangan to trace the triggers of pooling water in the area around the Puri Kembangan Ring Road underpass on Wednesday.
“The visit focused on monitoring the flow of the Kali Angke and coordinating infrastructure development in the Polor Dam area,” Iin said in Jakarta on Wednesday.
The pooling in the Puri Ring Road underpass area, caused by the overflow of the Kali Angke, means that flood solutions must be linked to the river.
Since the dam is located on the border with Tangerang City, Iin said, cooperation with the Tangerang City Government is needed to address the pooling issue in the Kembangan area.
“The geographical issues at the border make us interdependent. Therefore, flood handling must be resolved comprehensively from upstream to downstream, involving all parties, from the Water Resources Agency to related regional-owned enterprises,” she said during the inspection on Wednesday.
Iin stated that, in addition to monitoring water discharge, the main focus of coordination is cleaning rubbish, namely addressing piles of waste that obstruct the river flow in the border area.
“Then, synchronising projects by ensuring development programmes between the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government and the Tangerang City Government,” she said.
In addition, Iin urged residents to participate in maintaining the environment. According to her, even the best infrastructure will not be optimal without community participation in keeping the environment clean.
“We ask residents not to throw rubbish into the river flow. Smooth water flow is our collective responsibility,” she stressed.
At the same location, Acting Head of the West Jakarta Water Resources Sub-Department, Mustajab, explained that this monitoring is a follow-up to tracing the triggers of pooling in the Kembangan intersection area caused by the Kali Angke overflow.
Although it has been decided to build a channel along the Outer Ring Road towards the Kali Angke, temporary emergency handling is needed.
The suction action using tank trucks and floating pumps carried out as on Tuesday (5/5) yesterday required time, so the pooling receded slowly.
Therefore, they, together with the West Jakarta Mayor, continue to seek emergency solutions before the new channel construction is realised.
“The solution is that the Mayor plans to carry out a rubbish raid downstream of the channel to the Kali Angke this weekend,” he emphasised.
