JAKARTA - West Jakarta Mayor Iin Mutmainnah has spoken out regarding the complaints from residents of Tanah Sereal, Tambora, who are forced to live in the ruins of their fire-damaged homes. Iin stated that her office has coordinated with the National Zakat Agency (Baznas) to find solutions to the housing crisis for the residents. “It will be discussed with Baznas and the owner of the convector business that caused the fire,” Iin said when confirmed by Kompas.com on Monday (23/3/2026). Iin acknowledged the residents’ aspirations to have their homes rebuilt as before. However, she believes that the reconstruction should be the responsibility of the convector business owner as the party suspected of causing the fire. “It’s impossible for the government to build it, because this is the negligence of the convector business owner. As for Baznas, it is in the nature of assistance; we, as the city government, are only following up on the incident for the safety of the residents,” she explained. Meanwhile, Tanah Sereal Sub-district Head Tubagus Masarul Iman stated that his office has provided evacuation options at the Kelurahan Office Hall. “We have offered them to temporarily stay at the Tanah Sereal Kelurahan Office Hall until there is a meeting with the convector owner, but the residents are unwilling because the kelurahan office location is too far from their homes,” Tubagus said. The Tanah Sereal Kelurahan Office, located on Jalan KH. Moh Mansyur, is about 750 metres from the residents’ settlement on Jalan Tanah Sereal 13. To date, all affected residents choose to stay in their respective homes or stay with relatives. “Until now, no one is at the Kelurahan Office,” he said. They also want more decent temporary accommodation during the process of the convector owner’s responsibility. “We live here in great misery. We’re also scared and uncomfortable living in these fire-damaged homes like this,” said Ani (49), one of the affected residents.
