Police arrested a man identified as MS (35) in connection with a motorcycle theft case. MS claimed to have heard voices before stealing a motorbike in the Grogol Petamburan area of West Jakarta. “Following the voices, he was directed to the rental house where the incident occurred, then he committed the theft,” said AKP Alexander Tengbunan, the unit head of the Grogol Petamburan Police Station’s Reskrim.

Police stated that the suspect carried out the motorcycle theft at a boarding house in the Wijaya Kusuma area of Grogol Petamburan, West Jakarta, on Wednesday (27/5) morning. Initially, the suspect loitered around the victim’s motorcycle parking area.

MS then entered the parking area, forced the lock, and pushed the motorcycle towards the road. While pushing the motorcycle, the suspect was assisted by an online motorcycle taxi (ojol) driver, who believed the bike had broken down.

“The ojol driver was unaware the motorcycle was stolen, hence the assistance,” said Alex.

The suspect was later apprehended by Sunda Kelapa Police Station and transferred to Grogol Petamburan Police Station on Wednesday (27/5) evening. Urine tests confirmed MS tested positive for methamphetamine.

“From Sunda Kelapa Police Station, the suspect and evidence, including a Honda motorcycle, were identified and secured. Our Reskrim unit then retrieved the suspect and the stolen item,” said Alex.

Authorities are currently investigating the suspect’s claims to verify his mental state. During the urine test, MS tested positive for methamphetamine.

“When the urine test was conducted, the result was positive for methamphetamine. Therefore, we are still investigating whether the individual genuinely has a mental health issue or is fabricating an excuse,” explained Alexander.

Additionally, police found a mental health certificate in the suspect’s bag. However, they have yet to confirm its authenticity.

“We cannot yet determine if the document is officially issued by medical professionals or fabricated. A further mental health assessment will be scheduled,” he added.

Police are also probing whether the suspect may have committed previous thefts. The stolen motorcycle, which had not yet been sold, has been seized as evidence.

“We are still investigating the suspect’s prior activities,” said Alex.
