Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Library and Archives Sub-District Office (Sudin Pusip) of West Jakarta is preparing to launch the Stories for Foetuses and Toddlers (CINTA) programme for pregnant women and mothers of toddlers in the area. “For that programme, we will launch it on 8 May (2026). It is planned to be held at the Pusip Office,” said the Head of Sudin Pusip West Jakarta, Ahmad Jazuri, when contacted by ANTARA in Jakarta on Wednesday. In the programme, he said, pregnant women and mothers of toddlers are taught how to tell stories (storytelling) to their babies still in the womb and their children under five years old. “We train and teach that (storytelling method),” Ahmad stated. According to him, listening to certain stories by children in the womb or toddlers can trigger brain development and even reduce the risk of stunting or malnutrition. “So, we stimulate and gently prod the nerves in the brain from the womb onwards through the mother’s storytelling,” Ahmad explained. “Stories are not just any stories; there are specific categories and methods. There are various types of stories and intonations,” Ahmad revealed. Furthermore, he added, there are techniques used when doing storytelling for children. “Because this is specific, not stories for primary or secondary school children,” Ahmad added. In implementing the programme, his office collaborates with the Health Sub-District Office and the Family Welfare Empowerment groups (PKK) in West Jakarta. “PKK mothers are the closest to the mothers in their areas, so we invite them to collaborate,” Ahmad said. He added that the programme is professionally standardised as it involves the storytelling community and psychologists from universities. “So, this is a professional programme of ours. Although it has been running in two to three RPTRA (Child-Friendly Integrated Public Spaces) per month, the launch will be at the beginning of next month,” Ahmad concluded.
