West Jakarta KPKP Agency Sterilises 524 Male Cats in First Half of 2026

The West Jakarta Food Security, Marine and Agriculture Agency (KPKP) has sterilised 524 male cats during the first half of 2026 in an effort to curb the population explosion of rabies-transmitting animals. Tanti, Head of the Livestock and Animal Health Section at the West Jakarta KPKP Agency, explained that the sterilisation is performed using a castration method with minimal incisions. “After sterilisation, the cats are given an eartip marker,” Tanti said when contacted in Jakarta on Friday. Tanti noted that the agency collaborates with several communities, including the Sehati Cat Lovers Community (KPKS). “For stray cats specifically, we use the Trap, Neuter, Return (TNR) method, where they are captured, sterilised, and then released back into their original habitat. The sterilisation activities are held free of charge,” Tanti stated. In 2026, the agency is targeting the sterilisation of 2,200 local male cats across eight sub-districts in West Jakarta. This effort is being undertaken to suppress the cat population explosion and prevent the spread of rabies.
