West Jakarta gets a new fountain

In a bid to meet its residents' escalating demand for recreational areas, a new fountain has been constructed and opened to the public in West Jakarta.

The fountain, located at the center of a 2.5 hectare pool in Grogol, was inaugurated by Mayor Sutardjianto at a ceremony over the weekend.

Built by the Mayoralty Park Office at a cost of Rp 319 million (US$146,870), the fountain spouts up to 30 meters high.

In order to further beautify the area, 18 colorful, antique- style lamps were installed in the 800-meter park surrounding the fountain.

Mrs. Sutadjianto, who accompanied her husband during the dedication ceremony, said the pool should also be used for the cultivation of fish in order to help the management finance the operational costs of the recreational area. (03)
