Jakarta (ANTARA) - The West Jakarta Environmental Office (Sudin LH) is regulating waste carts to address the piles of rubbish at the Temporary Waste Storage Site (TPS) Depo Kembar, Jelambar, Grogol Petamburan.

Head of Sudin LH Jakbar, Achmad Hariadi, said the regulation is being carried out following the frequent accumulation of carts transporting waste to the location, as the transport trucks have not yet returned from the Integrated Waste Processing Site (TPST) Bantar Gebang.

“So the number of cart operators going there (to Depo Kembar) is adjusted to the availability of transport trucks. Thus, the waste does not pile up,” Hariadi stated.

Furthermore, they are proposing to two neighbourhood associations, in addition to RW 08 Jelambar and RW 02 Jelambar Baru, to provide locations for cart pools.

“So later the system will be a cart pool, so the waste is parked in the carts until the transport truck arrives. Well, that’s for the residents to determine the collection point, so deliberation is needed for this cart pool TPS, no need for a depot location,” Hariadi explained.

Further, they have instructed the Grogol Petamburan Environmental Unit to prepare reserve trucks when the transport trucks are delivering waste to Bantar Gebang.

“We are trying to ensure that at Depo Kembar, trucks are always on standby,” he said.

Previously, Head of the Grogol Petamburan Environmental Unit, Udin Mahmudin, mentioned that waste cleaning at the location had been carried out by a joint team of 30 personnel, following complaints from residents about the odour produced.

“The towering piles of rubbish even spilled onto the main road, disrupting local residents’ activities,” he said.

In addition to personnel, they also deployed heavy equipment such as a shovel to load the piles of rubbish into five large waste transport trucks.
