Jakarta (ANTARA) - The West Jakarta Environmental Agency (Sudin LH Jakbar) has mobilised approximately 100 personnel and one fleet of large trucks to transport the accumulated rubbish in the vertical drainage shaft (shaft) of the Tambora Flats, Angke.

Head of Sudin LH Jakbar, Achmad Hariadi, in Jakarta on Wednesday, stated that the rubbish buildup up to the sixth floor in the flats was due to the rubbish shaft being clogged with uncollected waste.

“There are around 100 Jakbar LH officers along with PPSU and one fleet of large trucks deployed. There are four rubbish shafts there, two of which are in use; one shaft is nearly complete. One shaft is about 2 cubic metres,” Hariadi said when contacted.

According to him, the rubbish piled up in the shaft up to the sixth floor of the building because waste transportation was hindered.

“It was hindered because it hasn’t been collected, so the rubbish above is held back by the rubbish below. We have asked the local Kasatpel to carry out simultaneous handling, as well as socialisation to the community and flat residents regarding waste sorting,” Hariadi said.

“Because the rubbish is not managed, what happens is that the rubbish piles up,” he emphasised.

In addition, the Sudin LH is also promoting the establishment of a waste bank in the Angke Flats area, Tambora, West Jakarta, to address the rubbish problem in the area.

Sudin LH Jakarta Barat is currently proposing the procurement of a waste bank to the Tambora I Flats Management Unit (UPRS). The existence of the waste bank must involve stakeholders, the community, cleaning staff, and other relevant parties.

“If it’s only the flat cleaning staff without the community, it won’t be effective,” he said.

Previously, rubbish in the vertical drainage channel or shaft/trash chute of the Tambora Flats, West Jakarta, had piled up to the sixth floor of the building on Tuesday.

The buildup occurred due to delays in transporting rubbish to the Bantar Gebang Integrated Waste Processing Site (TPST). This caused the transportation of rubbish from the first-floor trash chute exit to also be hindered.
