Jakarta (ANTARA) - The West Jakarta Correctional Institution has received the award for the best Technical Implementation Unit (UPT) at the national level from the Ministry of Immigration and Correctional Services.

Sri Susilarti, the Head of the West Jakarta Correctional Institution, who officially assumed the role of Mid-Level Computer Administrator in the Directorate General of Correctional Services on Thursday, stated that the award is based on several indicators of institutional management, particularly in the field of integrity.

“It also covers the empowerment of correctional clients to enable them to become independent and reintegrate into society,” Sri told reporters in Jakarta on Thursday.

In addition to the award to be received on Monday (27/4), Sri also noted several important achievements attained by the Class I West Jakarta Correctional Institution during her tenure since 2022.

These achievements include successfully earning the Corruption-Free Region (WBK) predicate from the Ministry of State Apparatus Empowerment and Bureaucratic Reform (PANRB) last year through enhancements in the quality of public services that are swift in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOP) and free from illegal levies.

Sri advised the subsequent Head of the West Jakarta Correctional Institution to emphasise the importance of empowering correctional clients to become independent and reintegrate into society.

The programme is implemented through collaboration with various parties, including local governments, Community Groups Concerned with Correctional Services (Pokmas Lipas), and the Ministry of Manpower via training at the Job Training Centre (BLK).

“Some of our clients have already received starter capital assistance for Independent Workers (TKM) amounting to Rp5 million. If their businesses develop, they can receive follow-up assistance up to Rp15 million,” said Sri.

Meanwhile, Raden Mas Kristyo Nugroho, who officially replaces Sri as Head of the West Jakarta Correctional Institution, will continue and enhance the ongoing programmes.

He assessed that the role of the Correctional Institution is now increasingly strategic, especially in line with the mandate of Law Number 1 of 2023 on the Criminal Code, which expands the functions of the Correctional Institution from the early stages of the legal process.

“The role of the Correctional Institution is not only at the end but from the beginning of the investigation process to guidance. This presents both a challenge and an opportunity to improve performance,” he stated.

Furthermore, Kristyo targets the West Jakarta Correctional Institution to achieve the Clean and Serving Bureaucracy Region (WBBM) predicate. He is optimistic that this target can be met with the support of all stakeholders.

“This year, we have entered the initial assessment stage for WBBM. With cooperation from the entire apparatus, we are optimistic about achieving it,” he concluded.
