West Jakarta City Government Partners with KAI to Utilise Land for 3R Waste Processing Sites
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The West Jakarta City Government (Pemkot Jakbar) is partnering with PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) to utilise land as Tempat Pengolahan Sampah Reduce, Reuse, Recycle (TPS 3R) sites in Tambora and Tamansari.
“In the short term, we will utilise KAI-owned land at eight stations in West Jakarta to support waste management, particularly in areas with limited land availability,” said West Jakarta Mayor Iin Mutmainnah when contacted in Jakarta on Thursday.
Iin explained that the land utilisation partnership with PT KAI is focused on areas around stations as waste processing sites, especially in densely populated districts with minimal open space, such as Tambora and Tamansari.
“We can work together to resolve waste issues in the environment, particularly in Tambora and Tamansari sub-districts, which lack sufficient land space. Thus, KAI also agreed yesterday, and we will conduct effective communication,” she added.
Head of the West Jakarta Environmental Agency (Suku Dinas Lingkungan Hidup), Ahmad Hariadi, added that they are currently awaiting administrative processes, including official applications from the land users.
“We request a request letter from the user, in this case the Environmental Agency. Then, through the Mayor, it will be promoted as a TPS 3R. And we will synergise with KAI,” Hariadi stated.
Hariadi said that KAI’s involvement is deemed important in waste processing, including the provision of related technology. This step is also intended to encourage independent waste management by PT KAI.
“At the TPS 3R later, we hope KAI will also be present and provide technological support, as they also have an obligation to manage waste independently,” said Hariadi.
To build the TPS 3R, Hariadi continued, a minimum land area of 1,000 square metres is required. However, if around 500 square metres is available, the TPS 3R construction can still proceed.
“The plan involves two plots of KAI land in Mangga Besar and Jembatan Lima. Possibly minimising to 1,000 square metres, but if there is 500, we will still proceed,” he said.
Previously, the West Jakarta City Government (Pemkot Jakbar) has intensified public awareness of waste sorting to achieve the target of reducing residue from 70% to 30%.
“So if we implement waste reduction at the source, automatically, as I mentioned, if we succeed in sorting and managing 70%, then only 30% will be transported,” said West Jakarta Mayor Iin Mutmainnah to reporters at the waste sorting raid workshop in Rusun Tambora on Wednesday (8/4).
Therefore, Pemkot Jakbar is intensifying the waste sorting programme, which, according to Iin, requires direct awareness from the community.
They continue to intensify socialisation in every area regarding waste sorting, particularly at the smallest level, namely households, up to large communities like Rusun Tambora.
