West Jakarta City Government introduces 'Residents Prevent Fires' movement in Tambora

The West Jakarta City Government (Pemkot Jakbar) has introduced the “Residents Prevent Fires” movement in Tambora District as an effort to raise public awareness in preventing and tackling fires from an early stage.

West Jakarta Mayor Iin Mutmainnah said the activity included socialisation and simulations on fire prevention and response. According to Iin, fire prevention must become a collective movement, especially in Tambora District, which has a high population density.

“This movement marks that we hope all residents of West Jakarta will work together to prevent fire incidents in their respective areas,” Iin said in Jakarta on Tuesday.

She reminded the public to increase vigilance, particularly amid the current hot weather conditions. Iin asked residents to ensure that electrical installations in homes and business premises are installed according to safety standards.

“I ask the public to always check electrical installations and use electrical products that meet SNI standards. This is because electrical short circuits remain the main trigger of fires,” she said.

In addition to residents, Iin urged business operators, factory owners, and warehouse managers to ensure the availability of proper and usable light fire extinguishers (APAR) at all times.

She even instructed the Tambora District administration, the West Jakarta Fire and Rescue Sub-department (Gulkarmat), and the Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) to inspect APAR at various business premises.

“I instruct the Tambora District Head, the West Jakarta Gulkarmat Sub-department, and Satpol PP to immediately go into the field to check the availability of APAR at every business premises. No one should ignore safety regulations,” she stressed.

Meanwhile, Head of the West Jakarta Gulkarmat Sub-department, Suheri, said Tambora District consists of 11 urban villages, 96 community units (RW), and 1,083 neighbourhood units (RT).

To date, 79 RWs have received socialisation on fire prevention and response. Meanwhile, socialisation for the remaining 17 RWs is targeted to be completed soon.

“The availability of APAR needs to be maintained through inspection, maintenance, and education on their use,” he said.

According to Suheri, the West Jakarta Gulkarmat Sub-department has distributed 449 APAR. In addition, his office has also received support for 1,264 independent APAR from companies through corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes.
