West Jakarta City Government Deploys 1,648 Officers for 2026 Economic Census

The West Jakarta City Government has deployed 1,648 officers for the 2026 Economic Census (SE2026) in the region, which is being held simultaneously by Statistics Indonesia (BPS) across the country from 15 June 2026 to 31 August 2026. Head of the BPS Human Resources Bureau, Eni Lestariningsih, stated that the activity aims to provide baseline data on all economic activities in Indonesia and update household socio-economic data as material for more targeted development planning. “This Economic Census is held every 10 years, in years ending with the number 6, so the last SE was in 2016. This Economic Census is to map all economic activities throughout Indonesia,” Eni said during the SE2026 officer deployment ceremony at the West Jakarta Mayor’s Office on Monday. Eni explained that data collection is being carried out simultaneously across all regions of Indonesia to obtain an up-to-date picture of the condition and direction of national economic development. Through this census, BPS will map all business activities, from trade, services, and industry sectors to digital-based businesses that have grown in recent years. “Over the past ten years, we want to see where the shift in Indonesia’s economic structure is heading. Is it dominated by digital businesses? Is it dominated by the services sector? Or the agricultural sector? Or the industrial sector? Everything is mapped without exception, including agricultural sector activities. So, all business sectors,” she said. Eni noted that the implementation of SE2026 differs from previous censuses. In addition to recording all business sectors, officers will also update data on household socio-economic characteristics. “SE2026 can be said to be a more complete economic census because it not only maps business sectors but also updates household socio-economic data,” she clarified. To support the implementation, Eni confirmed that her agency has deployed around 251,000 officers throughout Indonesia. Of that number, 1,648 officers are assigned to conduct data collection in the West Jakarta area. She urged the public and business actors to welcome the census officers properly and provide correct and complete information. According to her, all collected data is guaranteed confidentiality and will not be used for taxation purposes. “We have the motto TIR: Terima petugas dengan baik (Welcome the officers properly), Isi data dengan benar (Fill in the data correctly), and Rahasia terjaga (Secrecy maintained). The public need not worry because the data provided will be kept confidential in accordance with applicable regulations,” she stressed. Meanwhile, West Jakarta Deputy Mayor Yuli Hartono invited the public to fully support the implementation of the 2026 Economic Census by providing accurate data to the officers. “I hope the public can welcome the census officers properly. This activity is important for updating and evaluating data collected 10 years ago, considering that economic conditions and the times continue to change,” Yuli said. He assessed that the availability of accurate, up-to-date, and accountable data is crucial in formulating development programmes. Therefore, synergy between the regional government and BPS needs to be continuously strengthened. “We understand the importance of the 2026 Economic Census as an effort to provide baseline data on all economic activities. This data will later serve as a foundation for future development planning, monitoring, and evaluation,” he concluded.
